Dean Shelton’s Bio
Dean Shelton, an Arkansas native, recalls, “I‘ve been interested in art as long as I can remember.” After a tour with the U.S. Navy following high school, Dean enrolled in Arkansas Tech. The professors saw his talent and guided him toward commercial art with an emphasis in drawing and design.
At Tech, Dean studied under Steven Naegle who strongly influenced his painting techniques and introduced him to watercolors. He received BS in Fine Arts from Tech and continued his studies at the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles before moving to Nashville, where he was a freelance illustrator for 30 years.
Dean began to shift his focus toward Fine Art in 2002, and currently maintains a studio in Fairview, Tennessee. He is a member of The Chestnut Group and the Tennessee Watercolor Society. His work is shown at Richland Fine Arts in Nashville, Tennessee and The Laurel Leaf in Leipers Fork, Tennessee.
