Alan Shuptrine’s Bio

Born in 1963, Alan Shuptrine has emerged as an award-winning artist in several mediums including watercolor, oil, sculpture, gold leaf, wood carving, etching, and making fine decorative objects of art. Known for his realistic drybrush watercolors which are painted with transparent pigments, Alan is carrying on the legacy of his father, the late Hubert Shuptrine, who was also nationally acclaimed. His influences, other than his father, include Winslow Homer, Andrew Wyeth and Stephen Scott Young. Raised in more than twenty cities, mostly in the South, Alan’s genre is naturally southern; and, like his father, he prefers highly detailed and dramatic compositions with juxtaposing light and shadow. His work can be seen in many public and private collections, as well as museums. Alan has won numerous national and regional awards and is an active member of several watercolor societies.
