Using Claybord™ and Aquabord™ with Watercolor
In this three-hour Zoom presentation, artist Judy Lavoie will explore the unique properties of painting with watercolors on the white clay surfaces of smooth Claybord™ and textured Aquabord™. Learn how these panels are made, how Judy has mastered their unusual characteristics, and how you can use them for your own artwork. Judy loves to inspire others to expand their watercolor techniques with these Ampersand panels.

DESCRIPTION: With step-by-step examples of her artwork, Judy will illustrate various techniques, while sharing many tips she has learned in over 25 years of using Claybord™. She’ll jump-start other watercolorists interested in applying their skills to these boards. Learn how Claybord™ and Aquabord™ present advantages to watercolor papers, including:
- Methods to reveal white areas without masking or painting around them
- Create more brilliance with transparent watercolors compared to works on paper
- Add fabulous detail and unique textures to your imagery
- Work on an archival, acid-free, museum quality surfaces which do not warp, stretch or bend, with no stretching or mounting necessary
- Protect and frame watercolors without matting or glazing
- Explore other media options on these surfaces, such as gouache, graphite, inks, markers, colored pencil and more
