TnWS Scholarship Award Program
In 2013, the Tennessee Watercolor Society (TnWS) launched a scholarship program for high school students in partnership with the Tennessee Art Education Association (TAEA) – a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing art education across the state.
We provide a $1,000 scholarship to a talented teenager who has submitted a watermedia work in the TAEA’s Regional Scholastic High School Art Competition, conducted annually in each of the state’s grand divisions (West, Middle and East Tennessee). The competition is conducted with assistance from art teachers in private and public high schools across Tennessee.
Our scholarship is offered in even-numbered years in conjunction with and in locations where TnWS-sponsored Biennial Exhibitions are held. Scholarship winners are chosen by our scholarship chair and the appropriate regional coordinator for the TAEA Regional Scholastic High School Art Competition in that area.
The purpose of the scholarship is to promote the use of watermedia and to provide financial assistance to talented teens seeking to attend a university, college or art school. The award check is sent to the educational institution chosen by the recipient. The student does not have to be an art major or minor to receive the award. Selected works will consist primarily of watercolor and/or acrylics on a watercolor paper surface. A combination of ink and watercolor is also acceptable.
